Dosing and administration

Each ready-to-use SYMJEPI Injection device delivers a full dose of epinephrine for the treatment of Type 1 allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, to3:

  • Diagnostic testing substances (eg, radiocontrast media)
  • Food or drugs
  • Allergen immunotherapy
  • Stinging and biting insects

SYMJEPI can be used to treat idiopathic anaphylaxis or exercise-induced anaphylaxis as well.3

There is a SYMJEPI option for almost every patient3

SYMJEPI 0.3 mg is for patients who weigh approximately 66 lb (30 kg) or more.3

SYMJEPI 0.15 mg is for patients who weigh 33 lb to 66 lb (15 kg to 30 kg).3

1Ready

When ready to use SYMJEPI, pull cap off to expose needle.

To ensure epinephrine does not leak by accident, do not touch the plunger until the needle is fully inserted.

2Steady

While in a seated position, hold the device by the finger grips. Face the needle downward and slowly insert into the thigh.

SYMJEPI can be injected through clothing if necessary.

3Go

After needle is in the thigh, push the plunger all the way down until it clicks. Hold for 2 seconds. Remove syringe and massage the area for 10 seconds.

The correct dose has been injected if the plunger has been pushed all the way down and the solution window is at least partially blocked.

4Protect

Once the injection has been given, use one hand—with your fingers behind the needle—to slide the safety guard up until it clicks to cover the needle.

You may need a second SYMJEPI injection if symptoms continue or recur. More than 2 doses in a row should only be administered under direct medical supervision.

IMPORTANT NOTE: SYMJEPI should ONLY be injected into the middle of the outer thigh. Do not inject into the vein, buttock, fingers, toes, hands, or feet. If an accident happens and you inject SYMJEPI into another part of your or your child’s body, seek medical attention immediately.

A simple way to recall these steps when using SYMJEPI
is to remember "Ready, Steady, Go, Protect"

Why SYMJEPI?

The SYMJEPI Injection device is smaller than the most widely used EAI, making it easier for patients to carry it with them when they're on the go.6

Each device delivers 1 dose of epinephrine in an allergic emergency, including
anaphylaxis. The window gives you confidence that the medicine has been delivered.3†

Some medicine may remain in the device, but the correct dose has been injected if the plunger has been pushed all the way down and the window is at least partially blocked.3

SYMJEPI has a thinner needle than the most widely used EAI.6

SYMJEPI features a safety guard to keep you protected. Don’t forget to slide it up to cover the needle before putting the used SYMJEPI device back in its case.3

SYMJEPI comes as a 2-pack in a convenient carrying case that can be separated if needed.3

The epinephrine in SYMJEPI is light sensitive and should be stored in the case provided between 68°F and 77°F (20°C and 25°C).3

Give your patients the option of symjepi

Not every epinephrine injection is the same

Because SYMJEPI is not an EAI, it’s important to specify explicitly what you are prescribing to your patients on their prescriptions.3

To ensure your patients get the option of receiving SYMJEPI, make sure you write:

If writing for SYMJEPI specifically, don’t forget to include 1 of the following:

  • "Dispense as written" (DAW)
  • "Brand medically necessary"
  • "Do not substitute"
  • "Brand necessary"
  • "No substitution"
